If you are as old as I am, you might remember the original tv show Hawaii 5-0. It has been revised and updated and back on the air again.
The two central and original characters were Steve McGarrett and “Danno” Williams as seen below.
I bring up this nostalgia nonsense because I loved the phrase “Book’em” Danno.
The good news is after BYU’s Saturday 34-28 win in Waco over Baylor, Kalani Sitake and the rest of the BYU football team can legitimately say “Book’em” to a bowl game.
That’s right. BYU needs to just win one of the remaining 7 games (see below) on their schedule and they are bowl bound.
As long as we are predicting and projecting, below is the list of the six guaranteed bowl tie-ins for the Big 12 conference.
Big 12 Conference Bowl Tie-Ins (by date)
Guaranteed Rate Bowl vs Big Ten, Thursday, Dec. 26, 5:30 p.m. EST, ESPN
AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs SEC, Friday, Dec. 27, 7:00 p.m. EST, ESPN
Pop-Tarts Bowl vs ACC/ND, Saturday, Dec. 28, 3:30 p.m. EST, ABC
Valero Alamo Bowl vs Pac-12, Saturday, Dec. 28, 7:30 p.m. EST, ABC
Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl vs. Pac 12, Saturday, Dec. 28, 9:15 p.m. EST, ESPN

It remains what will happen now with the last two games listed above with Pac 12 affiliations.
Of course, there is also possible post-season playoff action for BYU if they somehow make the long shot of playing in the Big 12 Championship game. Win or lose, that would likely put them in a much better bowl game.
That means that there should be at least 7 or possibly more post season bowl games in which BYU could merit…. if they win one more game and much, much more if they could make it to the Championship game.
Yeah, I know, I am jumping the gun, but since BYU shot a bowl game blank last year, here are their last 7 bowl games shots fired by the Cougars.
2015 - Las Vegas Bowl, 2016 - Poinsettia Bowl, 2018 - Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, 2019 - Hawaii Bowl, 2020 - Boca Raton Bowl, 2021 - Independence Bowl, 2022 - New Mexico Bowl.
Not Many Would Work Without Pay…
But BYU may have to. Gary Pay, the cornerstone of BYU’s current offensive line, spent the rest of the game on the bench with injury after the Cougars scored their second touchdown of the game in the first quarter.
I don’t know exactly when the injury occurred, but it had to happen during the three-play sequence before Chase Roberts caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Jake Retzlaff. You can see a beginning of a limp at the conclusion of the second play. At least I could when I watched the 3-play sequence on tape.
I think it happened on the play below.
He played one more snap - the td-toss to Roberts - and then he was never seen again on the field. This will be a “Time and Type” injury deal. Depending on the type and severity of the injury will determine the time he will miss.
Speaking of time, that resource has certainly been helpful for Jake Retzlaff. The 9 games in which he has started since last year, he has in reality made a huge jump in performance and poise.
He still has some “juco juice”* left in him, but that juice is steadily drying up as he is growing into a legitimate Big 12 quarterback.
* Juco Juice: I’m the best player on the field so I can make or attempt any play I want, and it will be successful. That juice doesn’t work at the next level because you are surrounded with at least 8-12 defensive players who are just as good or better than you were in high school and junior college football.
SPEAKING OF JUICE…
BYU Basketball fans will get a little sip of what Kevin Young and his staff and players are drinking this Thursday in the Marriott center.
BYU Men and Women teams will introduce their new recruits.
Unlike the new recruit below, Kevin Young never lays down on the job. Click Here for Young’s latest addition to the roster.
Amber Whiting missed her chance to land Taylor Swift to her women’s roster via the portal when Swift ran out of eligibility. No not that one. This one below.
Yes, Taylor Swift played at Texas Women’s University out of Denton, Texas.
And no, Travis Kelce won’t be there either. And no, Whiting was never interested in Swift.
Here are the details for the Marriott Madness:
PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball announced details for Marriott Madness.
It will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, with the men’s and women’s team participating. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for students. The general public is invited to attend as well with public doors opening at 6 p.m. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.
Oh yeah, “free to the public” is another difference between a Taylor Swift and the BYU Basketball extravaganza.
